Executive summary

The bias that operates beyond the files
Lo stesso meccanismo non resta confinato ai file. Opera ovunque tre ingredienti si presentino insieme — morte improvvisa, mondo dell'intelligence, assenza di prova — e vengano letti come disegno anziché come coincidenza. È il bias di clustering: eventi rari raggruppati per tratti condivisi sembrano un piano, mentre il mondo degli apparati è piccolo e «notiamo» solo i casi che combaciano. Questo dossier isola il fenomeno-Epstein; ma il lettore deve riconoscere il bias come generale, per non applicarlo dove non esiste un aggancio documentato.
The same mechanism is not confined to the files. It operates wherever three ingredients appear together — sudden death, the intelligence world, absence of proof — and are read as design rather than coincidence. This is the clustering bias: rare events grouped by shared traits look like a plan, while the world of agencies is small and we only "notice" the cases that match. This dossier isolates the Epstein phenomenon; but the reader must recognize the bias as general, so as not to apply it where no documented link exists.
